I wish I could say I was just out for an easy, breezy stroll in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast in these photos and not freezing my ass off, but that would be a complete lie. Spring has been off to very slow start, feeling more like an extension of winter. Our winter was a mild one this year and I honestly never felt like I could complain, but now that May has arrived I feel slightly more justified in my angst. The only silver lining I can seem to find is I’ve been able to get much more wear out of what has become my favorite jacket.
For years I wore the same tired trench, not wanting to invest in a new one because I always felt that they were so unflattering. Enter the Asos skater trench {also seen in pink here}, cinched at the waist with a flared “skirt” and pleating detail, this jacket has become my go to, especially over dresses! Its so much more flattering and feminine than any other trench style out there.
I also love how it pairs with this cold-shoulder dress in serenity blue and blush accessories like this classic structured tote from H&M and a pair of nude lace up sandals. And guys this dress is such a great piece for the summer months and it’s $26!!! I seriously did a double take when I found it! It comes in black and a nude color as well, but I love the blue, which is even flattering on my pale skin. This dress will get mileage this summer at so many events: showers, brunches, girls nights, date nights…people might get sick of it, but I don’t care!
Fortunately after freezing outside, Ashley and I headed into Restoration Hardware to warm up, browse and have some amazing comfort food in the most elegant surroundings. If you haven’t visited, I’d highly recommend going! The wait can be around an hour, but in the meantime you get to stroll the most stunning of showrooms and mentally redecorate your entire home while you wait! And as elegant as the space is, the food is still as affordable as it is amazing. A hard combination to duplicate in Chicago!
