Back to School Art Party

With the school year now in full swing, we recently decided to host an after school art party to reconnect with friends we hadn’t seen over the summer months! I put together some fun crafts and creative and healthy snacks that I knew the kids would love and then… I got sick. Back to school means that the kids are not only exposed to germs at school but that they also bring them home.

Fortunately, as a busy working mom of 2 school-aged children I know how important it is to always be prepared for what ails them us! There are a few essentials that I always pick up with shopping at Walmart that not only help me be proactive against the germs kids are exposed to in their day to day lives but also get us back up and running when illness strikes.

Canceling the party was simply not an option so to make me feel better about the preparations I started by making myself an immune support smoothie. I also took Advil® Liqui-Gels® and Centrum Vitamints® to make sure that I was feeling as good as possible and could enjoy the party.

Advil® Liqui-Gels®: Nothing’s faster on tough pain*. {*Among OTC pain relievers. Use as directed.} Centrum Vitamints®: Essential nutrients you enjoy like a mint, including 100 % or more of Vitamins C, D, E, and B6.

One reason I love smoothies is that they are perfect for my busy mornings when I don’t have a lot of time to eat.  Most mornings I’m in such a hurry to get out the door with 2 kids that sitting down to eat does not fit into our routine. Green smoothies are an easy way to pack in nutrients and protein when you’re on the go, and this one gives me extra immune support when I needed it most with the addition of Emergen-C®.

Emergen-C® is packed with B vitamins, electrolytes, more vitamin C than 10 oranges^ and other antioxidants†. With over 20 flavors, you have plenty of delicious varieties to choose from.* {^Based on the USDA.gov nutrient database value for a large, raw orange. †Zinc and Manganese*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Next, came the snack prep. On the menu: banana sushi, cereal trail mix, and cucumber sandwiches.

Banana Sushi

Banana sushi is not only super healthy but it’s also super fun. And the kids got a huge kick out of it! It’s also easy to customize with ingredients you have on hand, for a quick after school snack.

The kids also snacked on mini cucumber sandwiches. And let’s face it, anything is better when it’s miniature!

Easy Cereal Trail Mix

I whipped up some easy cereal trail mix which can be customized with any ingredients you have at home! The kids love snacking on this after school and whenever we are on the go.

I finished my prep and set up, just as the kids arrived!

And now for the fun part…

For our craft, I set up some acrylic paints and a variety of brushes and let the kids paint either a canvas or a tote or backpack that they could take home!

The kids got to work right away!

We’ll call it “abstract art”:) Fortunately, I was prepared. I was able to enjoy the party and because the kids were busy, things didn’t even get too wild!

At the end of the party, I sent all the moms and dads home with a care package of all my feel-better essentials. You can see my daughter helping me put the packages together 🙂 She absolutely loves Chapstick® and keeps tubes of it all over our house! It really does moisturizes and soften for smooth lips every day. Chapstick®: “Skincare for lips™”

The last item for our care packages was Robitussin®.  Robitussin® clear cough from your schedule. {*Use as directed}

These essentials keep my family feeling great and prepared for the school season, and all that comes with it. Extracurriculars, homework, all the things that only parents can understand. And they are all easy to find at Walmart.

The back to school art party was a big success and both kids and parents had a little something to take home with them!
