This post should be called 1 vest and 4 coats that you need for winter, but 5 coats you need for winter just sounded so much better! Here is the midwest, and anywhere that experience season changes, coats become not just a practical piece of clothing but a way to express personal style and accessorize in the winter months. In other words, coats can be warm and cute!
5 Coats You need for Winter
I’m sure I could come up with at least 10 coats I want for winter, but these are the 5 that get the most wear.
A Practical Parka
Out of the 5 coats you need for winter, this one get the most wear day in and day out. It’s warm, keeps out the wind, is water resistant, but doesn’t look like a sleeping bag. I recommend investing in a quality parka and looking for one that cinches at the waist.

A Versatile Wool Coat that You Can Dress Up or Down
My second most worn jacket of the 5 coats you need for winter, a versatile wool coat can be dressed up or down. These jackets are often called duffle coats, car coats, pea coats or just wool coats. They are great staples for the workplace but also look just as great with jeans on the weekend! This is also a jacket that can be found at all price points. Mine is actually from Target.

The Puffer Coat
Perhaps the most practical of the 5 coats you need for winter is the Puffer Coat. In previous year, my puffers always made me feel like the Michelin Man, but this season’s are slimmer without sacrificing warmth. I also love a Puffer Coat in a bright color or pretty pastel, but you can also never go wrong with black, white or grey.

The Statement Coat
There is something about a great statement coat that makes me feel super confident. I mean if you’re wearing a bold leopard print you best be holding your head up high. These coats are available at a variety of price points and can be super versatile. You can see another way that I wore mine casually HERE.

The Vest
While not technically a coat, a great vest is a layering must all season long. I wear mine over sweaters and flannels in the fall, under coats in the winter for an added layer of warmth and over a denim jacket in the spring. Old Navy always has the best selection of colors and styles and they are super affordable!
