Hack: Styling a Dressy Casual Outfit
One of my favorite styling hacks is combining dressy pieces with casual to create an outfit that appears effortlessly pulled together. Often times, I find myself investing in a dressier piece for a special occasion and then said piece gets relegated to the back of my closet never to be seen again. Such a waste. So when I snagged this adorable tiered lace skirt for a bridal shower this spring I knew it had to be added to the rotation. Sadly, my exact skirt has sold out, but I was able to find another that I love. And if you are loving the pinstripe and ruffle trends as much as I am, you’re sure to adore this option as well!
Tips to Pull Off the Dressy Casual Trend:
1. Keep the rest of the outfit simple.
Add a causal tee with a dressy skirt or under a slip dress. Swap out heels for white sneakers. Opt for simple jewelry.
2. Choose one fabric.
Be it lace, sequins, tulle or silk, stick to one elegant fabric.
3. Denim works every time.
Pairing a denim jacket with a lace dress or skirt always works. Jeans are an equally stunning complement to a silk camisole or velvet blazer.
4. Think day to night.
I would totally throw on my Adidas Superstars with this for day and swap out for my heels for a date night or drinks with friends.
5. Don’t overthink it.
Pick your favorite dressy piece and add a wardrobe staple that you love, be it your favorite denim jacket (obsessed with this distressed one, plus its under $70!), a simple white tee or your favorite sneakers and that an outfit makes!
