Hello, Monday! Never did I think I would be oh so happy to see your smiling face! Stuck at home for the past couple of weeks in crappy weather with 2 bored kids (and one recovering from surgery) was not what you would call fun. Not to mention brutal on the creative process. I love my family, but my family loves a routine. We need it, we thrive on it.
Routine…sounds so boring and predictable, doesn’t it? That’s what I used to think. But now I realize that having a routine doesn’t necessarily mean sticking to a strict schedule all the time. It just means that there are priorities to the day. Things that must get done, whether we like it or not. And rather than avoid those facts, embracing them and planning for them allows us the ability to relax and enjoy the rest of our day without the weight of all we should be doing dragging us down.
I digress, back to fashion…another lesson that I have learned as I’ve gotten older and one that I touch on a lot here on the blog is “less is more” and “its in the details”. This was actually something I learned while styling outfits for this very blog. For me, the devil really is in the details. I love how a simple midi dress, leather moto jacket and booties become something much more special when the midi dress is a luxe knit and the moto jacket is a buttery suede with striking silver hardware. Edgy booties and cat-eye sunglasses finish the look.
Honestly, for being a bit edgy, this is also such a wearable outfit. This dress, while body hugging, is so soft and such a great length, that it can work on so many different shapes and sizes. I love how it easily dresses down {imagine a chic bomber jacket and a pair of Stan Smith sneakers}, or completely dresses up like how my friend Ashley wore this versatile dress.
Sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone in fashion can be a really good thing.
