Happy Friday Eve guys! Today I’m bringing it back to the basics with some transitional pieces I recently picked up at H&M. You might be thinking: “Back to basics? What is she talking about? All this chick ever wears are ‘the basics’.” And you wouldn’t be completely wrong, but humor me for a moment…

You see when I first launched this site almost 3 years ago, I really had no direction. I was still finding my personal style and doing a lot of experimenting. I knew what I felt comfortable in, but I would see things on others and see how beautifully they pulled it off and attempt to recreate it. Epic fail. Because while I have been fortunate enough to meet some truly amazing and inspirational women through blogging, I just can’t seem to pull off color and print mixing like my beautiful friend Anna or haute glam like the amazingly talented Ashley. Over time, I’ve honed my style back to its roots and recently asked myself…

…What inspires me?

I wished to better understand what I was truly drawn to. On other blogs, on Instagram, on Pinterest…I desired a better understanding of what was catching my eye. What I found, is that I am truly drawn to a very modern, minimalist style. Of course I adore classic pieces, but what I noticed was that it was those classic, minimalist looks that had been taken to the next level that really caught my attention. Ruffles, oversized top coats, structured details, bell sleeves, lacing, cutouts.

…simple details on a monochromatic or “basic” outfit

It was these details that elevated the entire look. This was the aesthetic that I seemed to most gravitate toward. And it seems I’m not alone. I quick scroll through Instagram or Pinterest and its clear that this type of look has been, and continues to, catch the eye of many. Why? I think its because its attainable. It doesn’t require a wardrobe overhaul. Everyone owns jeans and sweaters, its simply the addition of fresh and modern details like ruffles or bell sleeves. Because…

…basics don’t have to equal boring.

And now for the giveaway! This week I am teaming up with an amazing group of ladies to bring you an INCREDIBLE giveaway. One lucky reader will win a $1,000 gift card to Target.

…and who doesn’t love Target?
